Biography:

This farm comprised part of the original ½ section that was homesteaded by George A. Ide and his brother William T. (Willie) Ide Jr.  The Roger and Jean Ide farm was originally Willie’s, and the original farmhouse was actually completed before George A. Ide’s farm house (current Dawn & Jerry Hartman place).  The following is from Ellen France Allen Ide’s memoirs:  “Meantime, brother Willie had built his house, and was occupying it with his wife who had gone out after he had made provision for a comfortable place for her to live.  When we arrived [after visiting the East during which trip their small son Frank fell ill], we occupied their second floor rooms while our house was building . . . “   Click here to see the 1876 map showing Willie’s farmstead.

In 1883, Willie moved to town and sold his farm.  The SW quarter of section 6 was re-acquired by the family in January 1913 on a land contract by George’s son Frank and Frank’s wife Agnes.  In July of 1913, the parcel was warranty deeded to Agnes.  It was quit-claim deeded to Frank’s son Frederick Waterman (Fritz) Ide in June of 1927 (see link above to family deed above).  All three of Fritz’s sons (Russell, Robert, Roger) were born in the farm house, and Roger and his wife Jean are still living on and operating the farm.
